7 Nights: Sitka to Juneau* - Sample Itinerary
Day 1
Depart from Sitka by the Sea, the capital of Russian America. Visit the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center and commune with bald eagles; stroll through the haunting temperate rainforest trails of Totem Park. Travel up the outer cost of Baranof and Chichigof Islands and anchor in a secluded bay at Chichigof Island.
Day 2
Explore scenic Ogden Passage by sea kayak and shore boat, stopping for a relaxing soak at White Sulfur Hot Springs before transiting steep-sided Lisianski Strait to moor in the fishing village of Pelican. After dinner take a boat ride to “Bear Meadows.”
Day 3
Enter Cross Sound, viewing the Brady Glacier and Cape Spencer, prime salmon and halibut country. Visit Elfin Cove and later explore the current-filled South Inian Pass. Cruise between the Inian Islands before anchoring. After dinner, kayak among the sea otters.
Day 4
Cruise Key Strait to Point Adolphus to watch humpback whales feed. Visit Gustavus or maybe tee off for a round of golf on the Mt. Fairweather links. Salmon, halibut and Dungeness crab are abundant for the angler, and an optional flightseeing trip with a local bush pilot over the spectacular Glacier Bay Park is available.
Day 5Explore Chatham Strait. Kayak the marble grottoes of Basket Bay, or fish the trophy steelhead streams of Sitkon Bay, visiting the ruins of historic Chatham Cannery or the whaling station of Killisnoo along the way. Cruise the shores of Admiralty Island. Soak in the stone hot springs next to the waterfall in Daranof before anchoring.
Day 6
Fredrick Sound. Cruise the sea lion rockery at the Brothers Islands. Humpback whales congregate in this area; watch for the resident pod of Orca whales. Anchor in a quiet cove.
Day 7
Steam through the Tracy Arm National Wilderness Area. Explore the ice and waterfalls by kayak and shore boat. Move this evening to the departure destination of Juneau. An optional helicopter flight to land on the Juneau ice field is available.
*NOTE: This itinerary can be run in reverse order, from Juneau to Sitka.
